Kia Corporation today unveiled the official images of the new, already the fifth generation of the Kia Sportage crossover. The novelty can be seen in all details from the outside and inside, except that the second row and the trunk have not yet been shown.

The design of the “fifth” Sportage was created according to the canons of the new philosophy of Opposites United (United opposites). In designing the model, Kia’s artists drew inspiration from the juxtaposition of the forces of nature and the technological advancement of humanity. From this and such a contrast of the sculptural forms of the body panels of the sidewalls, the sharp forms of the front end, and the futuristic lighting elements of the stern.

“The next edition of Sportage gave our talented design teams a tremendous opportunity to do something new. Draw inspiration from the brand’s recent relaunch and the introduction of EV6 to inspire customers with modern and innovative designs. With the all-new Sportage, we didn’t just want to take a step forward, but instead take it to the next level in the SUV class, ”said Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Design Center, Kia Motors.

The first impression of the car is designed to set the proprietary Kia radiator grille in the style of Tiger Nose (Tiger nose), like the Stinger liftback. At the same time, boomerangs of daytime running lights are cunningly woven into the “web” of the grille, on the sides of which there are blocks of the main headlights. At the same time, the bumper is not visually overloaded with any protruding parts, but rather acts as a link with decorative elements on the doors (note the transition of the chrome line from the rear wheels to the framing of the fog light sections).

The front end is perceived to be short, while the passenger capsule is deliberately long, which gives the car a more dynamic look. The wide C-pillar – a characteristic of the previous two generations of Sportage – has disappeared. From now on, the glazing line reaches almost to the very fifth door and is additionally emphasized by the shape of the beltline with chrome trim.

The boomerang theme is also played up in the design of the rear bumper, and the lanterns are completely intricate in shape. They are interconnected by “razor-thin” (quote from press release) by a stroke of the light strip on LED elements, which makes the stern visually wider, and also emphasizes the shape of the trunk. In addition to this, the new crossover for the first time in its history will already be available from the factory with a contrasting roof.

Conceptually, the interior design echoes the new Kia Sorento – the virtual tidy and the display of the media system are arranged under one glass, while most of the front panel is focused on the driver. The microclimate control unit combines touch buttons and physical switches, and instead of the usual automatic transmission selector knob, a rotatable “washer” appeared. The control buttons for auxiliary systems have moved from the center console to the tunnel between the driver and passenger.

Judging by the pictures, the top-end versions of the model will be available with a two-tone interior. The manufacturer promised higher quality and tactilely pleasant materials, various seat design options, including quilted ones, as well as various ergonomic innovations such as hooks for clothes and bags integrated into the headrests of the front seats.

Kia has not yet disclosed technical data. However, it is already known that in terms of the platform this car is unified with the Hyundai Tucson NX4. Based on this, we can expect the appearance of a hybrid version with the ability to charge from external sources. At Tucson, such a setup consists of a 1.6 turbo engine and an electric motor, which together produce up to 265 hp. The system works together with a traction battery with a capacity of 13.8 kWh, and the electric range reaches 50 km. However, the related crossover also has conventional gasoline and diesel versions with various types of transmissions.

In South Korea, the production of the fifth-generation Kia Sportage will begin this month.
