Cadillac has unveiled a production version of the Lyriq electric car. The nearly five-meter crossover with a five-seater saloon is built on the same platform as the new Hummer but has a simpler suspension and basic rear-wheel drive.

The production Cadillac Lyriq doesn’t differ much in design from last year’s prototype. It has almost the same thin strips of LED lighting technology, a cap in place of the radiator grille in cars with internal combustion engines, and retractable door handles. However, instead of side cameras, conventional mirrors are installed, and the wheels have become smaller: diameter from 20 to 22 inches, depending on the configuration.

The size of the electric Cadillac Lyriq is close to the gasoline Cadillac XT6 but has different proportions and a highly stretched wheelbase. Length – 4996 mm, width – 1977 mm, height – 1623 mm, distance between axles – 3094 mm. The trunk is provided only at the rear, its volume is 793 liters “under the curtain” and 1723 liters with folded backs of the rear row.

The main novelty of the interior is a 33-inch concave display on the front panel. It combines the functions of the dashboard, media system, and control center for various vehicle electronics. At the same time, Cadillac used a push-button climate control unit and left physical buttons on the steering wheel (although there are also touch-sensitive buttons on the spokes).

The Lyriq also features active noise cancellation and an AKG audio system with 19 speakers and headrest-mounted speakers. The front seat electric control keys are placed on the door panels; for expensive trim levels, a design with wood and metal inserts is available.

Lyriq is based on General Motors’ new modular platform for electric vehicles, which was also used in the GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV. But if the “Hammer” has air suspension and four-wheel drive, then the “Lyric” has a spring suspension and a basic rear-wheel drive. Even at the stage of the presentation of the prototype last year, an all-wheel-drive modification of the Performance was promised, but it will appear later.

The engine on the rear axle develops 340 hp. and 440 Nm. The dynamic characteristics have not yet been announced, the motor is powered by an Ultium Long Range traction battery with a capacity of 100 kWh. The battery pack is a joint development of General Motors and LG Chem with a low cobalt content. The stated range in the US EPA test cycle is 300 miles (483 km).

The Lyriq can be charged from a DC device up to 190 kW. In this case, in ten minutes, energy is accumulated, sufficient for a journey of 122 km. The charging module from AC household outlets is capable of operating at a power of up to 19.2 kW

Acceptance of orders for the Cadillac Lyriq will open in the United States in September 2021, and production will start in early 2022. The crossover is planned to be produced at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. For the basic version, they will ask for 60 thousand dollars, but the more expensive First Release series cars will be the first to go on sale.
